Music Video: Noel Gallagher 'Do The Damage'

A video for the recent Noel Gallagher b-side ‘Do The Damage‘ has been revealed and can be watched by clicking the image below.

The promo bears a striking resemblance to the original idea for a-side ‘In The Heat Of The Moment‘ previously described by Gallagher which was apparently binned in favour of the as-live take eventually premiered earlier this month – a version also derided by the High Flying Birds leader during an interview on The Jonathan Ross Show last weekend.

The single charted at #26 in the UK yesterday and is leading the second Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds album ‘Chasing Yesterday‘, which won’t be around until next March. Before then, a second single entitled ‘Ballad Of The Mighty I‘ – recorded with Johnny Marr – is also expected to be unveiled.

Noel Gallagher embarks on a tour of Europe after his new LP’s release, starting at the Odyssey Arena in Belfast.

Noel Gallagher says kids only recognise me from Gogglebox

Noel Gallagher has revealed that kids still stop him on the street for his photograph - even though some have no idea who he is.

Talking to the XFM Breakfast Show with Tim Cocker, the legend said he'd been out for a curry with Mani of Primal Scream and the Stone Roses when they noticed a gaggle of kids outside the window, staring in.

"A crowd of kids had gathered," said Noel, "watching us have a curry, about 11 or 12 kids."

Encouraged by the owner of the restaurant, Noel went outside to pose for a photo with the excited kids.

"I was kind of stood there and this girl's going 'Oh my God! Oh my God!' And I heard her whisper to her mate, "Who is it?"

It turned out that Noel's face was familiar to the girl, but not from his record-breaking stint with Oasis or even his more recent solo success. She recognised him from his recent reality TV stint.

Noel revealed: "Her mate said 'He's off Gogglebox'. And she went: 'Are you off Gogglebox?'"

Ever the diplomat, a surprised Noel kept this cool. "I went 'amongst other things, yes'".

Noel Gallagher on Glasto - I'm available that weekend - it's not up to me though

Noel Gallagher is up for performing at the Glastonbury festival next year.

The 47-year-old musician made the declaration in response to comments made by Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl earlier this month, who said he would headline the festival's Pyramid Stage with his bandmates if Oasis reformed to top the bill as well.

Dave said: ''If Prince does it, and Oasis does it, you've got the Foo Fighters, how about that?''

The Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds star has now said he would be available for Michael Eavis' iconic event - which will take place at Worthy Farm in Somerset, South West England, from June 24-28 - but wouldn't be drawn on whether he wanted to reunite with his brother Liam for the festival.

Noel said: ''I'm available that weekend - it's not up to me though, is it?''
The 'In The Heat Of The Moment' singer was also full of praise for Dave and his band, insisting they are among the loveliest guys in rock.

Noel told XFM Radio: ''What they say about him is true. He is genuinely one of the nicest men in rock. We've done some big gigs with them down the years. Great lads, all of them.''

Noel quit Oasis in 2009 following a huge backstage bust-up with Liam, which ended with the volatile singer trying to hit his sibling over the head with a guitar.
The pair didn't speak for years but the animosity has eased between them in recent months, with Noel admitting that they are on ''good terms, well as good as we can be''.

However, a reunion doesn't seem to be a possibility for the near future, with the guitarist previously saying: ''It's not on the cards. From where I sit now it's purely a creative thing.

''I really, really enjoy where I am with my music and where I am with my band. I wouldn't be willing to give that up for anything.''

Noel Gallagher on Russell Brand and Oasis reforming

Noel Gallagher is a guest on The Jonathan Ross Show week’s show, and has been talking about Oasis and his pal Russell Brand.

“He is a very dear friend… He should stand in the election I think, his heart is in the right place but he does waffle on a bit you know...” he said.

He was also quizzed on whether he’ll ever get back with his former bandmates.

“Last time I interviewed you we were talking and I said ‘Would Oasis ever play again?’... You said ‘I’ll get back together with Oasis on the day you go work for the BBC again…’ Jonathan said to Noel.

“Now about three months ago, I did some work for Radio 2 again. They’ve asked me to do some more so… Are you a man of your word?”

Noel responded: “Does that mean I’ve got to reform a band?”

On a reunion with Oasis, Noel added: “I don’t see the appeal, I don’t see it, if I close my eyes, I don’t see it happening, that’s not to say that it never will but I’ve got a lot of things going on at the moment.”

Andy Bell opens up about Beady Eye splitting up

Guitarist Andy Bell, formerly of Oasis and Beady Eye, now of the newly reunited Ride, has opened up about the recent Beady Eye split in a new interview with NME.

Frontman Liam Gallagher announced the group's split on October 24, when he stated that the band were "no longer" and thanked fans for their support.

In this week's issue of NME, on newsstands and available digitally now, Bell said: "[Beady Eye] just sort of ran its course really. Liam had been pretty quiet for a while, and them he just let us know that his heart wasn't really in it any more".

Bell added that the band split on good terms, and the split did not come as much of a surprise. "It's been a long fade, really," he said.

Liam Gallagher last week (November 11) appeared at London's Shepherd's Bush Empire as part of the The Who Hits 50 tribute night for Teenage Cancer Trust, singing 'My Generation' backed by The Who's band.

Meanwhile, Bell's band Ride will play a series of dates in May 2015, including shows in London, Manchester and Glasgow and overseas gigs in Paris, Amsterdam, Toronto and New York. Ride will also make festival appearances at Primavera Sound in Barcelona on May 29 and London's Field Day on June 7.

Ride formed in Oxford in 1988, releasing four albums – 'Nowhere' (1990), 'Going Blank Again' (1992), 'Carnival Of Light' (1994) and 'Tarantula' (1996) – before splitting in 1996. They reformed briefly in 2001 for a Channel 4 documentary and 'Best Of' release.

Noel Gallagher used to give Liam a fiver so he could practice guitar alone

Speaking at XFM's An Evening In Conversation With Noel Gallagher last week, Noel said he used to give Liam £5 to go away.

Chatting about forming the band to XFM's John Kennedy, Noel said: "We used to share a room, he used to sit and watch me play acoustic guitar. Not once did he join in."

"The was no inkling, not even a twinkling in the eye or a clearing of the throat. To get rid of him I'd have to lend him a fiver. I'd sit there playing the guitar, i'd say 'Have you go nothing better to do?' He'd say 'Lend us a fiver and I'll go out.' It carried on like that for the next twenty years!"

Noel Gallagher's new album, Chasing Yesterday, comes out early next year.

Dave Grohl: I look at Oasis and think 'That's the greatest rock band I've ever seen in my life'.

Dave Grohl tells XFM's Danielle Perry how it's a "shame" that the Manchester band aren't together any more.

Speaking to XFM's Danielle Perry about the band's new album, Sonic Highways, Dave Grohl explained how he was a big fan of the Gallaghers… and that they should reconsider their split.

"The whole Oasis thing is a shame," he told Danielle. "We all love Oasis. We’ve played shows with them before, where I look at them and think 'That's the greatest rock band I've ever seen in my life'.

"To know that they’re out there somewhere but they won't come together to do the thing that everybody would love so much..."

Grohl went on: "They're fun. They have such a crazy reputation of being 'the Oasis guys', and then you see them at the bar and they show you pictures of their kids. And you’re like 'Wow, they're just normal dudes', y’know?"

Noel Gallagher recently announced his second album with his High Flying Birds, Chasing Yesterday, while last month Liam's Beady Eye revealed that they'd split up.

Noel Gallagher: Johnny Marr has been as influential on his career as brother Liam

Noel Gallagher has revealed that he was hungover during his recent live performance with Johnny Marr at the O2 Brixton Academy in London last month.

Gallagher had joined Marr on stage during his headline set, performing 'How Soon Is Now' and a cover of Iggy Pop's 'Lust For Life'.

The former Oasis guitarist took part in a Q&A session for XFM radio station yesterday evening (November 3) at the Hammersmith Club in London. Grilled by a panel of interviewers which included Manic Street Preachers bassist Nicky Wire, Gallagher discussed his new LP, which is set for release on March 2 next year (2015), plus his recent live team-up with the former Smiths guitarist.

"I don’t think I've ever been so fucking hungover on stage in all my life," he said. "I was getting a back rub from his wife about two minutes before going on stage. If somebody had come up to me and said 'You don't have to do this' I would have been, like, 'Fucking, yes'. It was my wife's birthday the night before and we'd smashed the arse out of it. I forgot I was playing with him. I promised him because he played on my record. He said 'Get up and do 'How Soon Is Now'' and then he drops another song on me on the day. But I did it because I'm a fucking trooper."

"I'd never played 'Lust For Life' before. You forget that you know all the words to it. 'How Soon Is Now' drags on a bit though, doesn't it?"

Gallagher also claimed that Marr has played a pivotal role in his life and career, a fact that he says is often overlooked because of his relationship with his brother and fellow Oasis member, Liam.

Elsewhere during the discussion, Gallagher also revealed how he first met Marr. "During the acid house craze in the late 80s I'd bump into this guy in the Hacienda: didn't know his name or who he was. And we weren't friends, we were just on nodding terms. One day, I bought The The album 'Dusk', which he [Marr] played on. And I bump into this guy I recognize from the Hacienda. He asked me what I bought and he said 'Oh, our kid plays on that.' I said 'Who's your kid?' And he said 'Johnny Marr'. I was like 'Wow'. I told him I was in a band and he said 'Give us a cassette and I'll give it to a kid.' Within an hour, Johnny had called me. And I was a nobody – nobody was into our band, bar the five people in it and a few hangers-on. That was it. But he was on the phone saying 'Ah, I think this is great.' So in many ways he was the first ever fan. Two days later I go for a drink with him. He asked where I get my guitars from. 'Guitars? Guitars? I'll tell you where I got my one guitar from."

Gallagher's upcoming record 'Chasing Yesterday' will be his second solo studio album and features his new single 'In The Heat Of The Moment'. Marr features on the track 'The Ballad Of Mighty I'. The full tracklisting is:

    'Riverman'
'In The Heat Of The Moment'
    'The Girl With X-Ray Eyes'
    'Lock All The Doors'
    'The Dying Of The Light'
    'The Right Stuff'
'While The Song Remains The Same'
    'The Mexican'
'You Know We Can't Go Back'
    'Ballad Of The Mighty I'

Gallagher will play a series of UK tour dates to support the album's release next year, starting with a gig at Belfast Odyssey Arena on March 3 and finishing with a show at London O2 Arena on March 10. The full dates are:

    Belfast Odyssey Arena (March 3)
    Dublin 3 Arena (4)
    Nottingham Capital FM Arena (6)
    Glasgow SSE Hydro (7)
    Manchester Arena (9)
    London O2 Arena (10)

This year, Oasis' first two albums – 'Definitely Maybe' and '(What’s The Story) Morning Glory?' – have been reissued. NME's newest Collector’s Edition presents the wild spirit of those times. Over 100 pages it tells the story of every song they wrote, recorded and released during the time, delves into the NME, Melody Maker and VOX archives to pick out some classic interviews, and builds up to the peak of their career: playing to a quarter of a million people at Knebworth Park in August 1996.

Noel on Oasis album in US: ...one push and it would have been Number 1!

Noel famously jumped ship from the band while on a US tour in 1996… and it was all down to a row between brother Liam and guitarist Bonehead.

Speaking at a special XFM charity event last night (3 November), Noel told XFM's John Kennedy:

"I had enough when Liam and Bonehead - and this is true - started arguing over a leather jacket. I am not even kidding. I can dress it up more than this, but this is what happened.
"Liam said to Bonehead on the back of the bus: 'Where d'you get that jacket from?' And Bonehead said: 'What's it got to do with you?' It went from that, to fighting!

"Wonderwall was at Number 5 in the charts, the album was at… one push and it would have been Number 1! One tiny week of doing good gigs!"

A Night With Noel Gallagher In Conversation was a special night in which Noel was interviewed by XFM's John Kennedy live on stage, with contributions from Nicky Wire of Manic Street Preachers, former Creation Records boss Alan McGee and ex-Deputy Editor of the NME, Hamish McBain.

You can own an audio digital download of this exclusive one-off event for just £1.99, with all net proceeds going to Global's Make Some Noise to change young lives across the UK.

Shaun Ryder thinks 'Liam Gallagher should get himself a TV Chat show

Happy Mondays' frontman Shaun Ryder has said he thinks Liam Gallagher should get himself a TV chat show.

Ryder made his suggestions for the Beady Eye singer in the new issue of NME, which is on newsstands now and available digitally. He said: "Apart from have another crew cut, I think he should get himself a TV chat show."

Others, including Johnny Marr, also gave their suggestions as to what they think the ex-Oasis frontman should do now that his latest band Beady Eye have split. Marr, who performed live with Noel Gallagher earlier this month, maintained that Liam should stick to what he's good at, despite the press attention and drama that follows him.

"Liam loves music and loves being in a band. People shouldn't forget that," he said. "It's a shame all this stuff kicks up, because his fame gets in the way of that love. It's not a job, it's a passion he's had since he was a teenager, and he's really good at it.

"I'd hate to see the consequences of his band breaking up and the soap opera that goes with it stop him making music. Oasis were together a long time; the fact they're brothers might mean they have to go off and live their own lives more than people in a regular band, because they've been together since they were children.

"There is a human being in there, who brings people happiness, and people need to remember that."

Producer Alan McGee, who's known Gallagher since May 1993 when he signed Oasis to Creation Records, added: "I love Liam – whatever he wants to do is fine with me."

This week, it was revealed that Liam Gallagher will perform The Who Band as part of a Teenage Cancer Trust gig next month. It will be his first live appearance since the demise of Beady Eye.
