Oasis furious as single is leaked online

British rockers OASIS are furious their upcoming single LYLA was illegally leaked onto the internet on Tuesday (29MAR05) within moments of its first airplay.

The long-awaited comeback track is due for release on 16 May (05), but after a European radio station played the NOEL and LIAM GALLAGHER-fronted band's song, internet sites worldwide started posting it for downloading.

Fears are escalating that forthcoming Oasis album DON'T BELIEVE THE TRUTH will be the next target for internet piracy.

A spokesperson for the band says, "Playing Lyla on the radio is embargoed until this Monday (04APR05) at 8:15am in the UK and the video will be shown first on (UK network) CHANNEL 4 at 11pm on 6 April (05).

"We are still trying to find out about the track and whether it is an original copy or a download itself."

The Chief tells the whole truth

NOEL GALLAGHER has given an exclusive interview to NME.COM where he claimed new LP ’DON’T BELIEVE THE TRUTH’ is their best effort since their classic debut ’DEFINITELY MAYBE’.

Although they scrapped it three times and it took three years Noel told NME.COM that Oasis are back on form and he’s prouder of their sixth studio album than any other Oasis record in the last ten years.

He told NME.COM: “I’m more proud of this one then of any album since ‘Definitely Maybe’. We stuck it out, we stuck to our guns and we pulled it off.”

With single ‘Lyla’ being released on May 16, the album following two weeks later on May 30 and a massive tour including appearances at V Festival (August 20-21) to come, Noel admitted it felt strange to return to full action with Oasis after ‘Don’t Believe The Truth’’s isolated recording process.

“It’s like pulling a huge, big elastic band back,” he suggested. “It went all the way back for three years and now we’re ready to let go. We’re getting back into the swing of things, it’s been ‘What? We’ve got to do a video on Friday? Whoa, whoa!”

‘Don’t Believe The Truth’’s elongated recording process has contrasted sharply to the regularity between the band’s previous albums, leading some to suggest Oasis were in crisis. However, Noel insisted he never panicked.

“We were more into getting this record absolutely spot on for no other reason then the songs demanded it,” he explained. “There was never one point where any of us where worried – apart from Liam who’s like a woman who’s on a fucking permanent menstrual cycle all the time about everything. He’s either way up in the clouds or way down in the gutter. So taking him out of the equation, the rest of us knew it was going somewhere and we kind of had it all in our heads we just couldn’t put our finger on why the versions before the album I’ve got in front of me now weren’t sounding right,.”

As with the ‘Heathen Chemistry’, Noel was joined on songwriting duties by his bandmates, and he believes the results back the new approach.

“People are telling me it’s really varied, I just think the album is a good collection of songs,” he explained. “Liam’s are great, Andy’s are brilliant and Gem’s – seriously – are the closest anyone’s going to get to ‘Revolver’.

He added: “Someone said to me my songs sound like B-sides from 1994. I take that as a compliment because the B-sides I wrote then should have been on ‘Be Here Now’. That would be an insult to some people but not to me.”

With the album now finished, Oasis are turning their attention to touring. The band will play nine massive UK shows for June and July – including a three night stand at The City Of Manchester Stadium (June 30, July 2-3), home of Noel’s beloved Manchester City – as well as playing Madison Square Garden (June 22) and The Hollywood Bowl (September 12) in America.

For the full interview with Noel, see this week’s issue of NME, which is out nationwide

Noel talks to Oasisinet about the album

Oasisnet grabbed Noel Gallagher for five minutes earlier today to get an exclusive insight into the 11 tracks that will make up the new studio album "Don't Believe The Truth" due for release on May 30.

    1. TURN UP THE SUN : It’s that epic it could’ve and should’ve been the first 3 tracks on the album!!
    2. LYLA: It’s the soundtrack of our lives doing The Who on Skol in a psychedelic city in the sky (or something!)
    3. MUCKY FINGERS: The result of one too many nights in the dressing room, brainwashing Gem with The Velvet Underground then thinking “Fuck it! Dylan rules!”
    4. LOVE LIKE A BOMB: Songbird’s bigger, far more interesting brother. One for the ladies, as Liam says.
    5. THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING IDLE: Having nothing to do is such a massive job that someone had to write a song about it.
    6. THE MEANING OF SOUL: Elvis on Red Bull!!
    7. GUESS GOD THINKS I’M ABEL: Up until two weeks ago, everyone thought the title was “Guess God Thinks I’m Able”!! Now everyone’s confused.
    8. PART OF THE QUEUE: Doesn’t sound remotely like anything we’ve ever done before. Legendary Cuban percussionist Lenny Castro shuffles up a storm. Amazing.
    9. KEEP THE DREAM ALIVE: A Song that totally does justice to the title. Will be a live staple for years to come. 10. A BELL WILL RING: Ringo’s favourite. Enough said.
    11. LET THERE BE LOVE: Should’ve been the last 4 tracks on the album. It took 7 years to finish. Worth the wait?? Oh yes!!

New Oasis single plays on Polish Radio

Radiowej Trójce premiered the new single Lyla today ! North American and UK audiences will have to wait until April 4th to hear the new rocker.
Fans lucky enough to listen to the internet stream reacted positivly on Oasis forum's around the web noting that Liam's voice seemed in top form again .

    Lyla

Calling all the stars to fall
And catch the silver sunlight in your hands
Call for me to set me free
Lift me up and take me where I stand

    She believes in everything
And everyone and you and yours and mine
I waited for a thousand years
For you to come and blow me off my mind

    Hey LYLA
    The stars about to fall...
    So what you say LYLA
The world around us makes me feel so
    Small LYLA
If you can't hear me call
    Then I can't say LYLA
Heaven help you catch me if I fall

She's the queen of all I've seen
And every song and city far and near
    Heaven help me mademoiselle
She rings the bell for all the world to hear

    Hey Lyla
    The stars about to fall
    So what you say LYLA
The world around us makes me feel so
    Small Lyla
If you can't hear me call
    Then I can't say Lyla
Heaven help you catch me when I fall

      Noel blasts Doherty and Martin

Noel Gallagher has been voicing his opinion on bands in the public eye again, this time having a poke at Babyshambles frontman Pete Doherty and indie moaners Embrace.

Gallagher first sticks it to Pete Doherty, fabled for his class A drug intake, saying he’s too soft to be in Oasis. Speaking to Q magazine he said “It’s like listen, son, you wouldn’t last a fucking rehearsal in Oasis.

“You’d be injecting washing up liquid into your sphincter within half a fucking hour.”

The mono-browed Manc then lays into Leeds based Embrace, a band once hailed as the new Oasis, by saying that he thinks Coldplay’s Chris Martin was wrong to write ‘Gravity’ for the struggling McNamara brothers. Saying “I don’t know what the fuck he’s doing writing songs for Embrace – but Chris can write a song.”

Of course the cynical amongst us might well remember that Noel, a master of headline creation, has an album to plug. Oasis release ‘Don’t Believe The Truth’ on May 30th.

'Don't Believe the Truth'...a glorious rebirth

When Noel scrawled tunes about nothing that meant the world and Liam buzzed off his head with a passion never rivalled by any rock 'n' roll singer in history.

Put simply, this is a glorious rebirth...

Noel is writing songs about queuing too long for a pint of milk and Liam is a whirlwind of inspiration and wondrous bullshit. Fans have been waiting for this moment for ten years...

Why? Because it's been ten years since Oasis made an album that truly changed the musical landscape. It's been ten years since they wrote an album of such spirit that you felt compelled to adopt a swagger as you walked through the streets of your council estate.

Don't Believe The Truth is that album. It's the Oasis that blew you away and an Oasis you've never met.

It's not about one particular song. It never has been. It's about an old attitude that somehow got lost amidst the tabloid hoo-ha and the mountains of cash, coupled with a complete reinvention of how and why Oasis exist.

For the first time in their history, they are functioning as a band. No longer does Noel feel the weight of the world on his shoulders, and Liam's writing tunes with the enthusiasm of a toddler who's just mastered walking. Gem is the rock on which the new Oasis is built while Andy Bell is an enigmatic influence, who makes Liam watch films starring David Essex. They call him Wing Commander Bell.

They are four individuals, who have pushed, pulled, laughed and fought inside the four walls of a studio, for what seemed like forever, to reach the light. And now they've arrived, it's positively blinding.

When they listen back to this record, a newborn confusion reigns. They're not sure who played what and when. All they know is that Zak Starkey played drums, although there is a rumour flying around concerning Liam, two spoons and a box of Cheerios.

Don't Believe The Truth runs to eleven tracks, and Noel has written five. That includes Let There Be Love; a defining moment in Oasis history. A song pulled back from over-production; one that sighs rather than shouts. 'Who kicked a hole in the sky so the heavens could cry over me?' It'll break your heart.

Mucky Fingers - which sounds like nothing Noel has ever written before - is his trip on the Velvet Underground, fuelled by Jack Daniels and an old, beat up organ bought on e-bay.

Then there's Lyla, who is apparently ''Sally's sister'', and The Importance Of Being Idle - a song so stark, so simple and so fundamentally Oasis, that it could have been a b-side in 1994. It's THAT good.

When you hear Part of the Queue, you realise that 'Noel Gallagher the songwriter' has regained some truth. He's once again tackling the little things, and leaving the meaning of life to somebody who has the time to work it out.

Three tunes are Liam's, although he claims to have written over a hundred.

What we do hear is the deafening ninety second Meaning of Soul which spits fifties rock 'n' roll blades at passers by, while Love Like A Bomb is a wistful daydream that he wrote with ''Julie fucking Christie'' in mind.

As for Guess God Thinks I'm Abel, Liam reckons he has a conversation with God one night in a boozer. God told him He was Abel. Simple as that.

Gem is his sounding board, who he drags into their studio at all hours to work on sparks of ideas that are currently flowing from him at a phenomenal rate. Andy describes Liam as ''...outrageously talented. He just invents chords. For every song on the album he probably has ten just as good''.

The opening track on Don't Believe The Truth is Andy Bell's Turn Up The Sun, with it's Midnight Cowboy intro that explodes into threatening, explosive rock 'n' roll. He also pops up with Keep the Dream Alive, a song inspired by a film called Stardust, starring David Essex. Noel won't watch it. The others won't shut up about it.

That leaves Gem's A Bell Will Ring and another layer on an album full of different sounds.

Noel sums up the all-new, harmonious Oasis...

''If somebody said to me, in twelve years you'll be in a band with your brother and two carrot munching geezers who don't like football I would have said fuck off, I'm not joining the Bee Gees.''

Don't Believe The Truth is truly the long awaited new album from Oasis, a band who now operate with the type of unity and passion usually reserved for the A-Team, on the trail of a group of Mexican cattle rustlers. Thankfully, though, some things will never change...

Noel Talks Through New Oasis Album

Oasis helmsman Noel Gallagher has given a track by track description of his band’s new album ‘Don’t Believe The Truth’ and has revealed that Martin Duffy from Primal Scream guests on the highly anticipated new release.

In a new interview featured in next month's issue of Q Magazine, Gallagher talks through the band’s new 12-track album ‘Don’t Believe The Truth’, describing some of the inspirations behind the songs and what fans can expect.

‘Turn Up The Sun’ - “A bit like Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, A stomper”

Mucky Fingers’ – Imagine Bob Dylan singing [The Velvet Underground’s] ‘Waiting For The Man’ with that frantic drumbeat.

‘Lyla’ – Our poppiest thing since ‘Roll With It’ Annoyingly catchy. A bit like The Who.”

‘Love Like A Bomb’ – ‘One of Liam’s. It starts off acoustic and Martin Duffy of Primal Scream plays this kinda country piano solo.”

‘The Importance Of Being Idle’ – “A cross between The Kinks and The La’s about being a lazy f**ker.”

‘The Meaning Of Soul’ – “Like Elvis on crack. We played it at Glastonbury like The Stooges.”

‘Guess God Thinks I’m Abel’ – A Liam tune that’s kind of slowish and acoustic.”

‘Part Of The Queue’ – One of mine with a weird 3/4 rhythm that’s a bit Shack [mid ‘90s smack-blighted, hugely melodic Liverpudlian nearly-rans] doing Love”

‘Keep The Dream Alive’ – “A song by Andy [Bell – bassist] that’s like The Stone Roses.”

‘A Bell Will Ring’ – Gem [Archer – guitarist] wrote it. It’s the closest anyone’s got to sounding like [The Beatles’] ‘Revolver’.”

'Let There Be Love' – “We [Noel and Liam] both sing, like the self-Righteous Brothers. It’s a fitting anthem to finish the record.”

‘Don’t Believe the Truth’ will be released on May 30 and the first single 'Lyla’ will out on May 16. Both will be released on Gallagher’s own Big Brother Recordings lable

Zak with Oasis till January 06

The new Who album has been delayed, not cancelled. The release date I had hoped for in the late spring or very early summer was whipped from under my nose after three years of writing. Shows we hoped to do in the early summer seemed to fizzle, and we lost our drummer to Oasis until January 2006. All alternatives proposed, and which I have desperately considered, do not fit in with my current commitments. I am committed to record the music for my new story The Boy Who Heard Music. I am also completing my autobiography later this year. Sadly, this forces a postponement of the planned Who activity this year for some indeterminate time.....

      Noel helps reunite the LA's

Seminal British band THE LA'S have thrilled fans by reuniting for a major concert - and it's all thanks to OASIS.

The THERE SHE GOES group split in the early 1990s following the release of their eponymous debut album, and they have since been hailed by Oasis star NOEL GALLAGHER as one of his band's leading inspirations.

And following Oasis' headline booking at this summer's (05) V FESTIVAL in England, the LIVE FOREVER guitarist reportedly urged his heroes to reform and play the support slot.

The Liverpool quartet are also working on new material in the recording studio, according to British newspaper the DAILY STAR.

Boneheads £50,000 guitar collection for sale

A £50,000 guitar collection owned by an ex-Oasis star is being sold by a legendary Manchester music store.

Paul 'Bonehead' Arthurs, a founding member of the million-selling band, is putting 14 instruments up for sale - including one of the earliest electric guitars made.

The instruments are on display in the window at Johnny Roadhouse Music, on Oxford Road, which has cult status among rock musicians.

Manager John Roadhouse said: "He rang us up to say that he was moving house and wanted to get rid of some guitars because he had stacks and stacks of them. We don't get many guitars of this value."

    Authentic

Danny Bourassa, who is a guitar expert at the store and has worked with Oasis band members for more than a decade, said: "A lot of these guitars are desirable in their own right. The fact that they are owned by someone famous adds value and it gives them a definite history which proves that they are authentic."

Many of the instruments were played on Oasis tracks and the band's gigs. Staff are in talks with instrument brokers and specialist agencies to get the best price for the instruments.

One of the earliest electric guitars, a Gibson Les Paul 1952 Goldtop, could fetch £25,000. Among the others is a 1966 Rickenbacker 330 that was used for the band's 1997 Be Here Now tour.

In the early 90s, Arthurs, now 39, founded a band called The Rain, which was renamed Oasis after brothers Liam and Noel Gallagher joined.

Since leaving the group in 1999, Arthurs has remained in the music industry, building a studio at his home and forming a band with Mike Joyce and Andy Rourke, formerly of The Smiths.

      New Oasis band picture

Typical; Liam Gallagher 32, is too busy looking mean and moody to enjoy a joke with the band on this exclusive new shot of Oasis I've got my hands on.

And with all the classic threads and feather cuts it looks like the veteran rockers have morphed into mod favourites The Small Faces

Noel, 37, also revealed more about the bands new album, Don't Believe The Truth, saying songwriting duties have been shared out this time round. He told me "There are 12 songs on it. I've written six, Liam's done three, Gem's got one and Andy has two.

Album title and Single revealed !

On May 16th 2005 Oasis return with a brand new single entitled ‘Lyla’. The track is taken from the band’s hugely anticipated new album entitled ‘Don’t Believe The Truth’, which follows two weeks later on May 30th on Big Brother Recordings.

Noel Gallagher believes that ‘Lyla’ is a true Oasis classic. '' It's The Who. ‘Lyla’ was specifically designed for pogoing. We wrote 66 tracks and ‘Lyla’ was one that we revisited late on and it's ended up on the album. I’m happy with every track on the album.”

‘Don’t Believe The Truth’ is the sixth Oasis studio album – their first since the number one multi-million selling ‘Heathen Chemistry’, released in 2002.

Crowning what will be an extraordinary 2005, Oasis will embark on an extensive world tour that includes nine huge shows in the UK – including seven stadium gigs. Tickets for these dates sold out in record time, even challenging the speed with which they sold out their legendary Knebworth shows of 1996. Oasis have just added shows in Newcastle and Ireland in the face of phenomenal demand. Further UK and European dates to be announced soon.

Furthermore, Oasis will return to North America for the first time since 2002, playing their biggest US shows to date. Their show at the legendary 14,000 capacity Madison Square Gardens in New York on 22nd June sold out in an hour. Check out the tour page for all the dates!
