      Noel's award giveaway

Oasis star Noel Gallagher has donated the numerous accolades his band have won to people tenuously linked to each award - because he's not comfortable decorating his home with statuettes.

The Live Foerever guitarist picked up a Best Documentary gong for DEFINITELY MAYBE - which documents the recording of their seminal 1994 debut album - at this month's (FEB05) NME AWARDS in London.

But rather than adorn his mantelpiece with the bronze honour, he plans to donate it to director of the Definitely Maybe film.

Gallagher says, "What we usually do is if we win Best Band, we give it to someone in the office. If we win Best Live, we give it to one of the crew, so this will probably go to the guy who made the DVD. We don't keep them. We don't do the gold disc or platinum disc thing. We just give them away - to charities and things to auction off."

      Noel mad fer Babyshambles

    Pete's a stage fighting man

Briggy from the entertainment team went to the Babyshambles gig at London's Brixton Academy last night.

It was a huge gig for the band, the academy was absolutely rammed and the crowd was really charged. The gig had to stop after one track because of crushing.

After about 20 minutes Pete and guitarist Patrick started laying into each other, throwing punches and kicking. Five bouncers ran on stage and dragged them off, although it looked a bit of a set up because they came back on after five minutes.

Babyshambles played for an hour and as the band were still playing, Pete had been whisked away into a car, in time for his curfew.

Bez and Noel Gallagher were in the audience, Briggy asked Noel why he thought Pete's become so popular - he said he's beautiful, poetic yet ridiculous and like Liam, Ian Brown and John Lydon is an anti-hero.

      New Album definitely finished

NOEL GALLAGHER has confirmed that the new OASIS album is finally, definitely, finished. Talking to NME.COM at last week’s ShockWaves NME Awards, the guitarist revealed how he was relieved now that the long-delayed record is finally ready.

Describing the past year as “difficult”, Gallagher said: “Not difficult in that everyone’s been feeling down about things, just frustrating that we thought we got to the finishing line, but when it came to it, it just wasn’t worthy of putting out.”

He added: “The longer that we took to do the album, the better it had to be because of the time from the last one. When it was two years, we asked was it good enough after two years of fucking about and now we have to ask if it’s good enough after three years.”

The follow-up to 2002’s ‘Heathen Chemistry’ has been beset with problems. Early sessions with Death In Vegas as producers were scrapped, and then when the album was thought to be ready for release last summer, until that too was scrapped after the band’s much-criticised Glastonbury performance.

“It’s done now. We master it tomorrow and it’s out on May 26,” confirmed Gallagher, suggesting that a possible title for the record could be ‘The Ear Has No Memory’.

For all the news and backstage gossip from the Shockwaves NME Awards along with exclusive interviews with all the winners, get this week’s collector’s edition of NME, out in London today (February 22) and nationwide tomorrow

Oasis to turn to Mcgee again?

British rockers OASIS are planning to turn to their former manager ALAN McGEE to help them recapture their old magic.

The WONDERWALL hitmakers - whose contract with SONY ends in six week's time - have struggled to create their upcoming sixth studio album.

Sources suggest they may turn to McGee, who signed Oasis in 1993 and helped them find fame and success. The two went their separate ways in 1999 when McGee sold his label CREATION to Sony.

A friend tells British newspaper the DAILY STAR, "Everyone wants to sign them but they want to go through Alan again, probably by creating a new label together and getting a major to distribute the albums."

Band members have refused to confirm plans, but after picking up the Best Music DVD prize at last week's (17FEB05) NME Awards, guitarist NOEL GALLAGHER hinted, "All I'm going to say is our contract is up in six weeks."

Oasis discs add £1,000 to tsunami appeal

AN OASIS fan from Denmark has paid £1,000 for two rare discs donated to the Western Mail's charity auction to raise money for the tsunami appeal.

Anders Larsen pledged £1,000 for both the items.

A multi platinum disc for the band's second album (What's the Story) Morning Glory? was donated by the band's Welsh producer Owen Morris.

Former Oasis member Paul "Bonehead" Arthurs then offered a signed gold disc for the same album after hearing about Morris's donation.

The Western Mail's tsunami auction was launched last month and has so far raised almost £17,000 for the cause following fantastic donations from celebrities, including a signed guitar from Manic Street Preachers.

Noel Gallagher Talks Album, Gigs And America

Speaking to Xfm after receiving his NME award for Best DVD, Oasis helmsman Noel Gallagher talks about his band's gig plans, the new album selling out Madison Square Gardens and gives the Brits a right slagging.

His brother Liam sidestepped the red carpet at the NME Awards pausing only to yell “Our gigs took long to sell out didn’t they?” at the assembled press, but Noel Gallagher was to be found backstage musing to Xfm about the NME and Brit Awards

“It’s a brand new award isn’t it?” He asked, “So we’re the inaugural winners of ‘DVD Of The Year’. Marvellous isn’t it? I think I’ve only missed two [NME Awards] and I’ve got them on video. The thing about them is that its always compared to The Brits right, and the thing about The Brits is for a certain section of the music industry. There are about half a dozen bands in this room that can kind of cross over there – ‘the chosen ones’ we like to call ourselves - but there’s none of the other shower that are invited to The Brits here. Y’know? The Rodney Williams [sic] and the Joss Stones and the Scissor Sisters are fucking rubbish. And they know it. Thank you very much.”

As for Oasis’ huge sold out upcoming open-air live shows this summers Noel seems more concerned with the weather, and even though their gig at the Madison Square Gardens in New York sold out in minutes, he still doesn’t reckon it’s gonna be easy back in the US.

“What’re they gonna be like? [the UK gigs] I dunno, I haven’t done 'em yet. I’ll tell you afterwards. Well, they sold out and there’s gonna be some really, cool support bands. - I don’t like to use the word ‘cool’ but there you go - and lets hope the fucking weather stays fine.

“Madison Square Gardens? Let's talk about that. They sold out in an hour. Did you hear that? An hour. That’s an hour. There’s been lots of people in our office going round sucking each others dicks going ‘Oh, isn’t it amazing?’ But you know these things always are a recipe for a fucking disaster. So I’ll enjoy it in the dressing room after we’ve raised the roof. But it is good to flog that many tickets in America, because apparently they’re more expensive.”

It also looks like the new Oasis album is finally complete and – while Noel is keeping his cards close to his chest – he reckons it’s sounding pretty good.

Yes. It’s finished, it’s being mastered tomorrow,” he explained, “May 26 it's out. I mean that’s what I’ve been told anyway. Liam’s songs? I’m not gonna tell you the songtitles because that’s for him to say, but they’re great. Llet me see, how many’s he got? Three. One we played at Glastonbury, called ‘The Meaning of Soul’ and the other two are great. Really really, really good. I mean I can’t say any more than that. We know what it’s gonna be and we know what it’s gonna be called. And that’s, that’s as much as I can tell you, there you go.”

Definitely Maybe wins best DVD at Shock Waves Awards

Oasis have made a rare public appearance to pick up the award for BEST MUSIC DVD at the SHOCKWAVES NME AWARDS 2005 (February 17).

The ‘Definitely Maybe DVD’, which celebrated the tenth anniversary of the release of the band’s debut album, beat strong competition from Nirvana’s ‘With The Lights Out’, Pixies’ ‘Pixies’, ‘Scissor Sisters’ ‘We Are Scissor Sisters And So Are You’ and The White Stripes’ ‘Live Under Blackpool Lights’.

Collecting the awards Noel Gallagher said: "Liam's a bit too overwhelmed to be up here to pick up the award... otherwise he's in the toilet being very 1995." He added: “I'd also like to thank Alan McGee. All I'm going to say is - our contract... six weeks.” Oasis have kicked off 2005 in style, in the year which will see the band release their eagerly awaited sixth studio album, due out in May.

The group sold out their upcoming show at New York’s Madison Square Garden in just over an hour when tickets went on sale on Saturday (February 12), and are strongly rumoured to be the headliners of V Festival in August.

      Noel's interview with Krock

Noel Gallagher called into New York's Rock Radio Station K-Rock today for a very light hearted interview with DJ Booker. Laughing a lot Noel had very few new things to say but seemed to be looking forward to the sold out show at Madison Square Garden.

    Here's a quick summary:

Noel was amazed the Garden sold out so fast. He said he looks 3 years younger since his last visit here and is as sharp as ever. The new album will be mastered and finished this friday but he did not want to reveal any titles, at one point he said that the album's working title is tentatively called "The Ear has no Memory". He confirmed a May 26 release date and expects the single to be released early May.

The band will rehearse about 20 songs for the tour and is still working on a set list. Noel would prefer playing a lot of new material but said the classics such as Wonderwall, Don't Look Back in Anger, and Champagne Supernova would be included in the show. Asked wether he (Noel) had seen Liam in the last 5 years he replied that he had spoken to Liam who's fighting a flue today and that there were No problems.

Big Apple fans gulp up Madison Square Garden tix

So a pre sale and a little over an hour of Ticket Master sales on Saturday is all it took to sell out "The world's most famous arena", MSG ! For all those doubting Oasis' selling power in it's loyal NYC hub this must have come as a slight shock but to all fans who witnessed back to back sell out shows in the city's smaller venues such as The Beacon , Hammerstein Ballroom and Roseland in the past it came as no surprise !

Oasis fan forum's were jamming with members reporting of their online frustrations with ticketmaster. Many had been lurking online for a chance at decent seats only to find out that it was not quite that easy even with the advantage of Oasisinet and Krock pre sales. Seems that perhaps Sony, Krock and Vips blocked off quite a few good seats for themselves , which is not unusual. In any case the buzz is back and New York can't wait for the lads to Rock the Garden !

      Liam lands acting role

Rock star LIAM GALLAGHER has landed a hardman role in a new British film called THE MANANA MAN.

The 32-year-old OASIS frontman will play a VINNIE JONES-style character in the movie, which is being filmed this summer (05).

An insider says, "Liam has been thinking about doing something like this for ages. "Over the past couple of months, he hasn't just been working on music material, but also his acting techniques.

"The film will go into production this summer - it's a bit like TRAINSPOTTING. "It's all very gritty and that's just the kind of thing Liam has been hoping to sink his teeth into."

Bonehead donates gold disc to tsunami aid

A STAR-STUDDED celebrity auction organised by the Western Mail which has so far raised almost £17,000 for the victims of the Asian tsunami will be boosted further today thanks to another fantastic donation.

Former Oasis musician Paul "Bonehead" Arthurs has donated a gold disc he received for the band's best-selling album.

The signed commemorative disc for (What's the Story) Morning Glory? will go on sale on the auction website eBay today along with a five times platinum disc for the same album donated by Welsh producer Owen Morris.

The Manchester band, pictured right - which includes brothers Liam and Noel Gallagher - received a number of discs, along with producer Morris, due to the phenomenal success of the 1995 album, which sold 4.2 million copies in the UK alone.

It remains the second biggest British album in history, behind The Beatles' 1967 hit Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, which sold 4.5 million copies.

Bonehead, who has since left the band, has donated the gold disc he was presented with after more than 25,000 copies of the album were sold in Denmark.

He generously decided to support the Western Mail's auction to raise funds for the victims of the Asian tsunami after hearing that Morris had handed over his five times platinum disc, which he received after the album sold more than 1.5 million copies in the UK.

The chart-topping album - the second released by Oasis - spawned some of their greatest hits, including Wonderwall, Champagne Supernova, Roll With It and Don't Look Back in Anger.

And although they had already gained a string of fans following the release of their debut album, Definitely Maybe, it was this, their second album, which propelled them to the top of their profession and made them one of the biggest bands of the '90s.

Morris, who is from Glyncorrwg, near Port Talbot, produced the album for Oasis, who are managed by Marcus Russell from Ebbw Vale.

Although his five times platinum disc is one of the greatest pieces of music memorabilia, he decided to donate it to the tsunami auction after being touched by the victims' plight.

"I wanted to put the disc forward for auction in the hope that it will raise as much money as possible for the appeal," said Morris, who now lives in Crickhowell and has worked with other top acts like Ash and The Verve.

"I'm working with Thailand's biggest rock band Loso who have told me just how bad things really are in their country at the moment. "The Oasis disc should raise quite a lot of money for the cause."

After hearing about the auction through Morris, father-of-two Bonehead decided he also wanted to do his bit to help.

"Owen said he was donating a disc and I thought it was a great idea," he said. "I would rather it was used to raise money than just left sitting on my wall. "I've got others and all of the band's work is on record for my children." "I still feel shocked by what's happened in Asia - it's destroyed generations."

    OASIS PLAN GARDEN PARTY

OASIS are to play a huge NEW YORK date, NME.COM can exclusively reveal.

The band, who will tour the UK in June and July, will also play at the New York Madison Square Garden on June 22. Support at the show will come from Jet.

Tickets go on sale on February 12.

The band’s as-yet-untitled LP will hit the shops on May 16 and features 12 songs written by Noel, singer Liam guitarist Gem Archer and bassist Andy Bell.

Noel Gallagher said: "The finished album is my favourite one of the last four. Because we're all contributing to the songwriting there's a different feel to it. In fact the only songs that sound like Oasis are Andy Bell's funnily enough.

"I've been listening to a lot of Bob Dylan last year, Liam was obviously some guy who used to be in a band in Liverpool, Gem's a very rock and roll but not in a Jet way if you know what I mean. Andy's just sound like Oasis, which is great."

Oasis will head out on a UK stadium tour in the summer, having sold over 330,000 tickets for the dates. The shows are Glasgow Hampden Park (June 29), City Of Manchester Stadium (30, July 2-3), Southampton Rose Bowl Stadium (6) and Milton Keynes National Bowl (9-10).

Noel said that the group have "bagged some magnificent support bands" for the tour, though did not reveal the exact names.

Scrapped Oasis Video test footage on DVD

This Review of the Director's Label Series Boxed Set was posted on the digitallyobsessed website yesterday:

    [excerpt]

The Works of Spike Jonze, Chris Cunningham, and Michel Gondry (2004)

The music videos form the core of the content for all three directors, though each disc is sprinkled with assorted short films, documentaries, commercials or video installations. Cunningham's are mostly commercials (including the Mental Wealth spot for Playstation), though we are offered some insight into the creative process with the Making All is Full of Love for Bjork. The Gondry disc's highlight is a nearly 75 minute documentary entitled I've Been 12 Forever, which takes a detailed peek at the artist via interviews, storyboards and drawings, and uses a branching option to go directly to a music video that is being discussed. For Jonze, it is a set of documentaries and so-called "rarities", one being the test footage for an Oasis music video that was eventually scrapped, with random people describing their visual impressions of what the video should look like.

Aussie students sing 'Wonderwall' for Pope

A group of young Australian students have belted out the verses of Oasis hit Wonderwall outside Rome's Gemelli hospital to wish ailing Pope John Paul II a quick recovery after his hospitalisation.

"We were meant to go to the [Pope's] general audience this morning but it was cancelled, so we've come here to sing for him and pray," said 17-year-old Tyron, alongside about 20 friends, from Sydney's St Ignatius school.

Though they got no closer than the front gate, they formed into a semi-circle in their blue jackets and began singing the British band's anthem.

It contains the chorus: "Because maybe, you're gonna be the one who saves me, and after all, you're my wonderwall."

The Pope was hospitalised with acute breathing difficulties late on Tuesday.

The Vatican reported his condition as stable.
