      Manchester's Oasis exhibition rescheduled

The Oasis photo and memorabilia exhibition entitled Chasing The Sun, which was held in London last month to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the band’s landmark debut album ‘Definitely Maybe‘, will now not move north to Manchester next month.

The exhibition had been due to open at the Future Artists gallery in Manchester on July 18th, but organisers have cited ‘unforeseen circumstances’ as causing the cancellation.

“Due to unforeseen circumstances, Future Artists regretfully inform you that the exhibition at the Great Northern, Manchester, has been postponed until further notice,” a statement reads.”For all updates and developments, subscribe to Oasis.net.”

The exhibition featured a treasure trove of contemporary artifacts, as well as various items from the later in the band’s career such as the white parka worn by Liam Gallagher during Oasis’ Glastonbury headline performance of 2004 – much to the ire of brother Noel.

According to NME, the event will still take place in Manchester later this year.

Liam Gallagher terrified Kasabian during helicopter flight

Liam Gallagher terrified Kasabian when he started play fighting with them during a helicopter flight.

The 'Eez-eh' hitmakers bonded with the rocker when they supported his band Oasis during their run of hometown gigs at Manchester's Heaton Park in 2009.

They got on so well that guitarist Serge Pizzorno and singer Tom Meighan were taken to Scotland for lunch in the helicopter with Liam but decided to be mischievousness.

Serge said: ''On the way back, Tom and Liam started play-fighting, rocking the thing, screaming. I'm sitting there going 'Maaaate!' This ain't like the back of a car, man, we're f***ing miles in the air.

This rain starts coming down and the captain goes, 'Right, we've gotta land because the weather's terrible.'

Liam's like, 'We're not landing, man, just drive through it!' - in the end we had to land. We had to emergency land in this airport.'' The stars then went back to their hotel and Serge and Tom were still starstruck after spending time with Liam.

Serge gushed to NME magazine: ''Liam's such an amazing dude. He's funny and proper looks after us. Those gigs were unbelievable.''

Video: Noel Gallagher , Macca and more pay tribute to Paul Weller

Musicians such as Noel Gallagher and Sir Paul McCartney have been paying tribute to Paul Weller soon after the release of his latest solo career retrospective ‘More Modern Classics‘. Have a watch of the video below.

“He’s adapted into other ways of playing and other ways of getting his music across,” McCartney says, while Gallagher adds:

“I’ve seen a kid come up to him once and say, at a pub outside ours, ‘I really like that shirt’, and he just took it off and gave it him and then sat in the pub topless. Yep, then sat in the pub topless for the rest of the day.”

‘More Modern Classics’ arrives after 1998′s ‘Modern Classics‘ looked back at the first part of Weller’s solo career, containing highlights from the past 15 years as well as the brand new track ‘Brand New Toy‘.

“This is just another few chapters of my life’s work, a journey which I would hope you would come with me on,” he said. “The music on this compilation is over 15 years but for me it feels like it could be 5 or 6 years. I’m rushing through like, I can’t slow it down. I’ll cling on tight and see where it ends up.”

Video: Pretty Reckless perform cover of Oasis classic 'Champagne Supernova'

The Pretty Reckless were the latest guests of BBC Radio 1′s Live Lounge series this week and performed a cover of the Oasis classic ‘Champagne Supernova‘ which you can watch here

The band’s singer Taylor Momsen is a big fan of the Manchester band which split in 2009, telling the Metro newspaper earlier this year:

“I’d love to write with Noel Gallagher. They wrote great songs.”
“He’s wicked cool,” she continued on Liam Gallagher. “He was exactly the guy I wanted him to be – a total rock star. I haven’t met Noel yet but I hope I will.”

‘Champagne Supernova’ closed Oasis’ huge selling second album ‘(What’s The Story) Morning Glory?‘ and became one of the group’s signature anthems and a constant presence during live shows from thereon in.

The Pretty Reckless also performed their own track ‘Messed Up World‘ for Radio 1 ahead of festival appearances at Download and Isle Of Wight this weekend.

Oasis picked as dream headliner by Isle Of Wight organiser

As Isle Of Wight prepares to kick-off the UK summer festival season in earnest this weekend, its organiser John Giddings has already been discussing his hopes for future additions of the iconic event which he brought back from the cold in 2002.

Quoted in the Daily Star, Giddings singles out Oasis, Blur and Fleetwood Mac as his top picks for future headliners whilst also reflecting on one of this year’s bill-toppers.

Oasis 20 Years of 'Definitely Maybe' celebration

     From the Organizers:

The event has been be organised by Cooking Soup to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of one of the greatest debut Albums of all time.

Cooking soup is run by arguably one of Oasis’s biggest fans. He saw the band 100 times starting in 1993 and even let the band use his tickets stubs for the exhibition. Some of his tales following the band from 1993-1994 feature prominently in the excellent Supersonic – Personal Situations book that has been recently released. His attention to detail will ensure this is the best Oasis party there has been.

The event at London’s iconic Scala will be on Saturday 30.8.14 exactly 20 years to the day the album was released.

The event will feature the only tribute band that Liam has officially recognised-Oasis UK.

The band will play the album in full and most of the B sides in a full 90 minute set. The band are famed for using the same visuals Oasis used on later tours and they have promised to create a unique 1994 montage to accompany their performance. The band are about to embark on a UK Theatre tour as they cement their position as the number 1 tribute band. Surely the arena’s will follow soon !

As a nod to Britpop’s 20th Anniversary, the band have asked Blurd to be main support on the night. Wonder how they will be received ?

Opening for the band will be official Oasis & NHFB DJ Phil Smith. Soup resident, Phil will play the same tunes he played before Oasis came on in Stadiums across the globe.

Exclusive Oasis Content - He has also agreed to let exclusive never seen before Photos and memorabilia owned by him to be displayed on the Venues screens throughout the night. The photos were taken on the road and in the studio with the band during 93-94 and weren’t even shown in the exhibition. Phil had unprecedented access to the band and these photos are truly an amazing capture of the bands rise to the top.
These are the rarest photos of Oasis still not seen in public and despite many offers Phil prefers to keep these for his own collection. He is Soups resident DJ so we have been given access to them for this one-off celebration.

Continuing with the Oasis Theme, a room will be hosted by Italian Oasis fanatic Fabio. Fabio ran the famous Wonderwall fanzine for years and host’s the infamous Oasis parties all across Italy. He has on occasion managed to get Bonehead to play with the tribute acts he books. I wonder….This is the first time his night has been hosted outside of Italy.

The other rooms will be given up to club nights associated with the Britpop/Manchester. Camden’s best night COOL BRITANNIA will host the foyer bar and we are pleased to announce the return of seminal London club night COME TOGETHER to host the main room. This event was legendary across South London from 1994-1999 and the djs played at such nights at IT & Popscene. Steve from influential Gigslutz music blog will be djing for us and more guests are sure to be added nearer the event.

All in all, this truly is the biggest Oasis celebration there has been and it’s the nearest you will get to seeing the band at their peak of 1994 again.

Tickets onsale now from www.eventim.co.uk/soupoasis whilst stocks last.
