Liam Gallagher Sorry as Oasis Miss V Festival
Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher has apologised to fans after illness forced the band to pull out of their headline slot at the V Festival in Essex.
The band performed in Stafford on Saturday but Gallagher was advised by doctors not to perform again after being diagnosed with viral laryngitis.
"The voice may of [sic] disappeared but I'm still here," he said via Twitter.
"First things first, V, I'm gutted, you're gutted. I'm sorry, what can I say?"
Snow Patrol stepped up to fill the headline slot.
Their encore included versions of Oasis classics Wonderwall and Champagne Supernova, while psychedelic US rockers MGMT carried a cardboard cut-out of Liam on stage as they played Live Forever in his honour.
Liam Gallagher added: "Respect to those bands who covered Oasis last night."
On Saturday, Oasis performed at the Staffordshire leg of the V Festival, which takes place at two sites over the same weekend.
They were due to move on to the sister site near Chelmsford in Essex on Sunday before Liam's illness struck.
It was due to be the last UK date of their current world tour, which began in Seattle 12 months ago.
A statement from the band said: "After a year of being on the road this is the first performance to be lost to a band member's illness, so naturally we are all gutted."
Oasis were the main attraction on the line-up for many at the festival.
Deborah Faux from Braintree, Essex, said: "I only came here to see Oasis and I'm really disappointed. That's put a real dampener on my whole weekend."
Andrew Slater, 21, from Ipswich, added: "I'm pretty gutted. It's annoying that they've pulled out. For loads of people who are here, they were really looking forward to seeing Oasis."
Georgina Wilson said she was "really disappointed", adding: "I paid £165 for the weekend, mainly to see Oasis and then they drop out."
