Noel Gallagher Looks Forward in Anger
After 18 years, eight albums and innumerable feuds with everyone from his little brother to Damon Albarn, perhaps finally Noel Gallagher's affection for Oasis is beginning to evaporate.
Life would be much easier, the 42-year-old musician has confessed to an Italian newspaper, if he could just join another band, "play the guitar and not have to worry about singing or writing songs".
Despite his apparent ennui, though, Gallagher is adamant that the group will stay together.
"Oasis won't break up," he told Corriere della Sera. "It's just that at the moment I can't see what more we can do … I need something to maintain my interest … My ideal would be to join another band."
Life as a rock 'n' roll star may have lost its shine, but Gallagher's fondness for verbal muggings remains undiminished.
The man who once compared his brother Liam to "a man with a fork in a world of soup" is still more than happy to share his thoughts on the competition.
"I look at Chris Martin [from Coldplay] who says he has never taken drugs in his life and I think he is an idiot. Doing drugs is the most beautiful thing about being in a rock band."
By his own estimate, Gallagher spent about £1m on drugs until 1998 when he decided to give them up.
"I stopped because it is bad for your health, brain, life and for people around you," he told the paper.
