No plans for EP in 2006 after all

Noel Gallagher speaking to Musiklandet (out takes)

Noel: I never think in terms of marketing and strategies for Oasis, after this tour which will go into March I'm going for a vacation away from music and all that until the sun stops shining. Then we'll see when I'll start writing songs again.

Noel: Of course I have periods in my life when I don't write songs. I always write music but can take long breaks in my lyric writing. I don't think I've written a single lyric in over a year because we didn't use the studio time that we were going to use, I guess those songs will wait for the next album.

Q: Was it the EP "Boy With The Blues" that you were planning to record during the holidays?
Noel: Yeah, it was the ambition but it didn't end up that way.

Q: When can we expext a new album?
Noel: Like I said earlier, there's probably not gonna be any recording done during 2006. After this tour I'm going to rest, spend some time with my family, drink a ot of tea and smoke a lot of cigarettes.

Noel: Honestly, and this is not what you want to hear, I don't have any long reaching plans for Oasis right now. Later this evening I'm going to eat because i'm starving right now and then I'm looking forward to the gig tonight and then we have a day off on Friday, those are my plans for Oasis right now......

Noel's latest take on Liam and babies

Noel Gallagher has gone on another rant where his targets are children and his little brother.

Speaking to a Norwegian newspaper, Noel said of his bruv: "Liam is not a good person. No one is funnier than him, but he's evil.

"When he walks into a room everything freezes."

He then shifted attention to kids saying that he can?t stand ankle biters.

The father of five year old Anais, blathered: ?They're fucking idiots...they're small, noisy, smelly, small, devil brats. They take too much time and they cry all the time," reports The Sun.

He also claims that people turn boring once they have children, saying: "Many people become so boring when they get kids, they seem to want to take over the house you live in.

"You have to be quiet when the babies are asleep... fuck that! It's my house and I am the boss in my house."

Liam joins Richard Ashcroft on stage

    The Electric Ballroom, London

WHEN Richard Ashcroft joined Chris Martin on stage during Live8, the Coldplay frontman hailed him as ‘the best singer in the world’.

His soaring rendition of 90s anthem Bittersweet Symphony was an undisputed highlight and reminded everyone why The Verve were one of the most important bands of that decade.

Now going solo, the singer is still producing equally anthemic songs, many of which he belted out during his magnificent performance at London’s Electric Ballroom last night.

Strutting on stage to the Oasis classic Cast No Shadow – a song pal Noel Gallagher wrote about him – Richard Ashcroft embodies all that is iconic about Britpop.

He has the trademark swagger, the shaggy haircut, the indie-rock clothes and that all-important voice.

Launching straight into sublime new tracks Music Is Power and Keys To The World, the singer proved his songwriting hasn’t become complacent.

Unsurprisingly, classic Verve hits like History, Sonnet and Lucky Man got the biggest cheers.

And a guest appearance from Liam Gallagher during Drugs Don’t Work received rapturous applause.

The Oasis star came to Ashcroft’s rescue when he couldn’t remember the order of the song and had to stop/start the performance three times.

Other highlights included awesome renditions of Ashcroft’s solo hits A Song For The Lovers, Check The Meaning and his soaring new single Break The Night With Colour.

With a back catalogue of hits that includes corkers like Drugs Don’t Work and Bittersweet Symphony, Richard Ashcroft is under no pressure.

He could sell-out venues across the country based on nostalgia alone.

But as his fantastic new album and electric live show proves, he won’t need to rely on that for a while yet.

Liam Gallagher makes surprise London appearance

Oasis man helps out an old friend

Richard Ashcroft was joined onstage by Liam Gallagher at his London show last night (January 24).

The Oasis singer appeared onstage at Camden Electric Ballroom to help out on a version of 'The Drugs Don't Work', a Number One hit for Ashcroft's old band The Verve back in 1997.

According to fans at the show Ashcroft was struggling with a rendition of the song and was lying on the floor when Gallagher came onstage to pick him up and encourage him to carry on, which he did.

When he finished the song Gallagher came on again and started applauding. Then he spoke into the microphone to praise Ashcroft for being a "free spirit".

Oasis snag 5 NME award nominations

THE Gallagher family will be celebrating after Oasis bagged five nominations for this year's NME Awards.

But newcomers the Arctic Monkeys could steal the show after grabbing four nominations - despite the fact that the band's debut album is only released this week.

The Kaiser Chiefs, from Leeds, will be vying for five awards - Best British Band, Best Live Band, Best Album, Best Track and Best Video - with bad boys Oasis.

The band, which started out recording in drummer Nick Hodgson's bedroom in 2003, are the only act to receive six nominations in the 50-year history of the awards.

Their sixth NME nomination is for Best Music DVD, for the track Enjoyment.

The awards are also good news for Liam and Noel Gallagher following Oasis's 2005 comeback album Don't Believe The Truth.

    Brits

The band are said to be snubbing the Brits after receiving only two nominations for next month's awards.

The Kaiser Chiefs, who until recently were involved in a feud with Oasis, got five Brit nominations.

    Arctic Monkeys

Sheffield-band the Arctic Monkeys have become a phenomenon after rocketing to success with I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor last year.

The band are nominated for four awards - Best British Band, Best New Band, Best Live Band and Best Track.

Franz Ferdinand are up for five awards - British Band, Live Band, Album, Track and Video, following the release of their second album You Could Have It So Much Better.

The Best New Band category will be a battle between British bands Arctic Monkeys, Editors, The Magic Numbers, and Maximo Park, and quirky Americans We Are Scientists.

    Maximo Park

This year's Godlike Genius Award goes to Ian Brown, the former frontman of the Stone Roses, and a driving force behind the original Manchester movement.

Kaiser Chiefs' drummer Hodgson said: "Obviously we're very pleased. It's great to be up for the Best Album and Best Live Band awards. I hope people vote for us because we've never won anything we've been nominated for before."

NME associate editor Dan Silver said: "This year's ShockWaves NME Awards nominations reflect what has been an exceptional 12 months for rock music.

"When the Kaiser Chiefs and Bloc Party performed at last year's ceremony, they were relative unknowns; this year both will return as conquering heroes.

"And with the likes of Arctic Monkeys, Maximo Park and We Are Scientists all showing strongly, that cycle looks set to continue in 2006."

Arctic Monkeys learnt guitar off Oasis chord books

Arctic Monkeys have revealed that they learnt to play guitar through Oasis chord books and the James Bond theme tune.

Frontman Alex Turner says that he only got an acoustic guitar back in the summer of 2001 and could only play two chords.

That Christmas he got an electric guitar and starting practising with Jamie Cook (Cookie).

He told the Star: “Cookie could play the James Bond theme but I could never get him interested in being in a band at the time.

“Then he got Oasis chord books and learned them, but only chords. None of us were good enough to do solos but I got into it.

“I got James Bond sorted, then wanted to move on and that.”

Showing his young age, speaking about the albums that influenced him when he was younger, Alex said: “‘Be Here Now’ was a big record, but we weren’t old enough for the first two Oasis albums.”

Oasis, Coldplay and Ian Brown for Spike Island ?

Three day event due for May...

Chris Martin reaching for the stars Oasis, Coldplay and Ian Brown could feature on the bill of a new music festival at Spike Island which is due to take place after the local council gave the go ahead.

Halton Council’s executive board have given its approval for a three day event due to take place in May.

According to widnesworld.co.uk Cllr Rob Polhill said: "This event is set to be the biggest concert here in ten years and it is appropriate that it is taking place at Spike Island, where the Stone Roses played their famous concert."

A free show involving local bands will kick off the festival on the Saturday and a source has informed Gigwise that organisers have approached former Roses front man Brown plus Oasis and Coldplay as possible headliners for a rock extravaganza on the Sunday.

David Millar, director of promoters Surprisingly Good Events, said: "The festival will be taking place before the other major concerts such as the Reading Festival so that bands can still play both."

Arctic Monkeys outselling Oasis' debut album

The Arctic Monkeys' "Whatever You Say I Am, That's What I'm Not" is set to become the fastest selling debut album in UK rock history, according to reports.

The record is apparently selling at levels last seen more than ten years ago, for the first Oasis LP "Definitely Maybe".

Music chain HMV reports the album could sell around 200,000 copies in the first week alone, if pre-order figures prove accurate.

The predictions confirm suggestions that the Sheffield newcomers are generating more interest than any other new band since the emergence of the Gallagher brothers.

Gennaro Castaldo, for HMV, commented: "We might be entering the Chinese Year of the Dog, but as far as the Music Industry is concerned 2006 is very much the 'Year of the Monkey'.

"We haven't seen this level of excitement for a new artist since the Britpop-heralding arrival of Oasis more than 10 years ago."

The Arctic Monkeys are expected to go to Number One with their second single, "Sun Goes Down", on Sunday.

      Coachella Festival documentary review

    (Outtakes)

......No matter how big this film becomes - and, frankly, it should be playing on an IMAX screen or at the Cineramadome immediately - I just knew that I'd never get another chance to see it in such a pristine environment again. Plus, I needed perspective. Those of you who have been to even a single day of any Coachella are as apt to have the same reaction that those of us who have been to every single day of all six Coachella fests have almost involuntarily. Initially, you"re simply awed, wowed at how perfectly the film captures the sights and sounds and the feel of Coachella. You see the giant Tesla coil go off in the night, or you journey through the 3D-glasses tunnel, or you notice the fatigued and dehydrated taking refuge from the sun under one of the bleachers set up in front of the second stage ... and all of your memories, all of your excitement comes flooding back at you.

Never mind how great the performances are, and many of them are something to behold. Both times I watched Coachella I noticed myself gasping when a split-screen trick shifts the audience's attention from a suddenly smiling Liam Gallagher of Oasis to the unassuming but breathtaking entrance of a pregnant Bjork for "All Is Full of Love." And during my first viewing I realized I was tearing up in my right eye during Radiohead's delirious rendition of "Planet Telex.".....

....As much as this will satisfy most faithful Coachella-goers, it's ultimately designed to show the world what they"ve been missing, not to re-create every great moment that ever occurred. It's about complementing several amazing full-length performances with documentary footage and interview segments that illustrate not just the glory and tranquility and euphoria of the festival but the cultural and socio-political importance of it as well.

(One of the best bits in it is a cross-cut dialogue, so to speak, between outspoken activist-rapper Saul Williams, who doesn"t believe in biting one's tongue for the sake of pleasing entertainment, and Oasis" Noel Gallagher, who is convinced rock stars should keep their opinions to themselves and that change-the-world music only had a chance in the "60s. Each makes a good argument.)....

      Kaiser Chiefs Wilson mocks Oasis

Kaiser Chiefs frontman Rick Wilson has labelled Oasis daft over their alleged decision not to attend The Brits.

The Leeds lad believes that the Mancunians are unreasonable for snubbing The Brits because they didn't have many nominations.

Wilson said: "It's daft as fuck they aren't going to the Brits because they didn't get lots of nominations.

"They probably think they've been snubbed, but they haven't. Usually nothing scares Oasis - they are like rock bears. We are just rock hyenas or meerkats."

In the interview with the Daily Mirror, he said that he was indifferent to fellow five-times Brit nominated James Blunt.

He continued: "Some people love James Blunt and some people hate him, but I just really don't care.

"It's like me being a lawyer or a farmer and being compared to a telesales assistant.

"I talked to him and we had a right good chat but let's just say I don't have any of his records."

      Oasis told to stop sulking

Noel and Liam Gallagher, of Oasis have been told to "start bucking up their ideas" by newcomers Hard-Fi, after it emerged they might snub this year's Brit Awards because they had only received two nominations.

Frontman Richard Archer said the likes of Oasis and Robbie Williams "can't expect to get nominated for everything".

Archer was speaking at the launch of the Brit Awards 2006 at which his band, from Staines, received two nominations.

Leeds rock band Kaiser Chiefs and singer James Blunt have five nominations each. The awards will be held on 15 February at Earls Court.

Oasis to boycott the Brits ?

OASIS have vowed to boycott the Brits after being snubbed for the top award.

NOEL and LIAM GALLAGHER will stay away after hearing they won't make the shortlist for the best album gong.

    And I can't blame them.

Don't Believe The Truth was an emphatic return to form.

With singles as strong as The Importance Of Being Idle, Lyla and Let There Be Love, it deserved to be rewarded with a nomination.

It would also have been a fitting tenth anniversary present after their last Best Album win with What's The Story (Morning Glory) - which included their first two No1 singles - Some Might Say and Don't Look Back In Anger.

A Brits source said: "Noel and Liam have no intention of turning up on the night. They see it as a real snub to be overlooked for the category.

"It was a real kick in the teeth for Noel because he wanted to see PAUL WELLER pick up his Lifetime achievement award."

Admittedly, this year's best album category is as strong as I can remember.

GORILLAZ, who Noel despises - and COLDPLAY (fronted by "a plantpot", according to Liam), are favourites for the crown.

That's before you consider GOLDFRAPP. Big fan MADONNA has nailed her colours to the mast claiming their No2 hit Supernature is by far and away the best album of 2005.

And the bad news for Oasis doesn't end there.

The only other category Noel and Liam would get out of bed for is Best Group.

But it looks like Liam, Noel, ANDY BELL and GEM ARCHER will miss out on that, too.

Once again, their geography teacher rival from Coldplay and DAMON ALBARN's Gorillaz will be going head-to-head.

And they will face stiff competition from both KAISER CHIEFS and THE MAGIC NUMBERS - who have each had an impressive year.

The nominations, which are being announced tonight in London, will feature Oasis somewhere.

Music bigwigs are bound to put them up for Best Live Act and Best Rock at Earls Court on February 15.

But Noel has made it clear in the past he sees these as "token" awards...

      Liam takes up yoga

Liam Gallagher is reportedly ditching his rock and roll lifestyle and taking up yoga classes.

The Oasis star has taken up Ashtanga Yoga classes at the Buddhist Centre in north London, says the Daily Star, after seeing a friend benefit from them.

"Liam has signed up for two classes a day with a personal trainer and has tried to talk his brother Noel into going - but he isn’t having any of it," said an insider. "Liam will really benefit from it. He’ll get a strong, healthy body as well as a clear and focused mind."

"Liam is also interested in taking up meditation classes and learning to chill out," the source told the paper. "He is also hoping to build a gym at the north London home he shares with his fiancée Nicole Appleton and their young son.

"And depending on how that goes, he may even build a swimming pool.".

Noel Gallagher - The Knives Are Out

To commemorate the launch of Xfm Scotland, Noel Gallagher came onto the station to talk with Breakfast DJ Dominik Diamond, who found the Oasis helmsman in typical form.

Speaking to Dominik on the new Xfm Scotland Breakfast Show, Noel set about looking back over some of the rather more controversial statements he's made in his past, and quite impressively managed to offend a whole new collection of people.

First subject matter was KT Tunstall, who Noel recently slated, seemingly by accident, just before Christmas. And now, bless him, he regrets it,

I gotta say this, he starts, I was in Q magazine a while ago slagging off KT Tunstall, and I was kind of shocked at that cos Id only been speaking to her ten minutes before and I don't really mind her music and she's a really sweet girl.

I really didn't mean to lump her in with James Blunt, it's just that she plays an acoustic guitar. I apologise for that cos I thought she was really cool but I was kinda horrified. I was like Oh no, I didn't say that?? cos she was alright and she's not as bad as James Blunt. He's rubbish.

Dominik also steered Noel's sights toward Bloc Party (a band his brother Liam famously described as A band off University Challenge?) and a comment he himself recently made about them saying A band that constantly describes music as interesting makes me sick to my f**king stomach.

Every time I read an interview by that shower, Noel clarifies, It's like they're talking about their favourite music, Yeah, I heard a Bjork B-side that was interesting. People that analyse music It's either good or its bad. So it either makes sense to your brain or it doesn't.

There's no such thing as interesting. I've never sat down and listened to a record and gone and analysed it that much that that I was interested. It's like, put it on and within two minutes you're going, Its rubbish, turn it off, turn it off! or stick it on again.?

There was no way Noel was going to get away without justifying his famously controversial quote where he hoped Damon Albarn and Alex James from Blur would catch AIDS and die.

It was kinda a bit of a stitch up by the journalist, Noel explained, I was in this dressing room after we played Irvine Beach in that Big Top, and we were all f**ked taking drugs - she was taking drugs an all, and I won?t name her on the f**king radio because that's probably not the best thing legally to do - but I kinda thought we were speaking off the record, but of course there was a tape recorder on.

But, there you go. I obviously don't wish that. A bad cold I should have said. Flu maybe?

Gallagher pities insane boy band members

    OASIS
star NOEL GALLAGHER insists rock is far healthier on musicians that pop, because retired pop stars always end up going mad.

The WONDERWALL hitmaker drew the conclusion after recent documentaries about British boyband stars TAKE THAT and BRIAN McFADDEN.

Gallagher says, "It's always a funny thing about boy bands.

"I saw a documentary on Take That and the one on Brian McFadden and the thing about these guys is they all end up mentally disturbed and suicidal.

"All these boy bands have a couple of lagers, dance around onstage and mime on Top Of The Pops.

"Take That's HOWARD DONALD said in the documentary that he hears voices at night willing him to fail.

"To fail at what? You don't do anything Howard."

      A Brit moody

Gallagher brothers fall out over who fronts Oasis at the Awards

THOSE feuding Gallagher brothers have locked horns yet again - this time over who gets to sing at the 2006 Brit Awards.

With less than six weeks to go to the hottest event in the musicbiz calendar, Noel and Liam have had one of their legendary bust-ups.

Although Oasis have agreed to perform at the star-studded event at London's Earls Court on February 15, neither brother wants to let the other hog the spotlight.

Our music industry mole tells us: "It's hilarious. They're both really keen to perform but they're at each others' throats over who gets to sing.

"Noel is insisting on singing whatever song they choose to perform and then Liam kicked off because he said he doesn't want to stand at the back of the stage while Noel steals the limelight."

At least one thing they are agreed on is a performance with the Modfather Paul Weller.

"Oasis are in discussions to play with Paul Weller," continues our source. "He's receiving a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Brits and the idea is they all jam together."

Let's hope the Gallaghers' hissy fit doesn't ruin what promises to be the biggest night in the history of the Brits. Madonna is rumoured to be opening the show, which will also feature Coldplay live. And Take That, who set out on a sell-out reunion tour this spring, are in line to present a gong.

      Franz fires back at Oasis

Interview outtake with Franz Ferdinand singer Kapranos.

Noel was quoted on Yahoo Music recently saying: "[Kapranos] reminds me of f---ing Right Said Fred. You put on I'm Too Sexy (for my F---ing Shirt) and I bet you any money it's the same person. It's the same f---ing person! He's just gone on the Atkins diet and grown his hair! Not my thing at all. I don't like quirky, weird music."

Does Kapranos have some sneaking fondness or even respect for that kind of bite?

"I've got respect for people who speak their mind and say how they feel about things but it wasn't Noel who said that; it was Liam. And Liam Gallagher knows he can get press from being as obnoxious as he can," Kapranos says. "When I read the press that surrounded them earlier [in 2005], it sounded like an extremely anxious, neurotic young girl at a high school who thought that she had younger, better-looking competition and was just bitching about everything about her.

"Because I think everybody, the Kaiser Chiefs, Bloc Party, every contemporary band was at the end of some form of vitriol from him. I'm not particularly bothered by him; it just seems like bitchery from cheap neuroses."

      Oasis reveal more EP info

Oasis have revealed plans to release an EP in the summer.

The lead track is likely to be the Liam-penned 'The Boy With The Blues'.

The band plan to take most of 2006 off after a tour in support of 'Don't Believe The Truth', and plan to mark the event with the release of the EP.

"Liam's got this tune that's left over from the sessions called 'The Boy With The Blues', which he got in a right fucking arse about and it could've been on the record," Noel told NME.COM." And I would like to - because we've got a month off in January, we've GOT ALL of January off- I'd like to go back into the studio to add a bit more to it."

He added: "I'd like to put it out as a one-off single, 'cos if we spend January recording and mixing it, it could be out for the summer."

Noel described the track as "catchy as fuck" and "a bit like Spiritualized."

The guitarist went on to say: "There's not much of a chorus to speak of, which is why it didn't go on the album. [Producer] Dave Sardy was like, 'It needs a chorus,' but it's got this change at the end where the words go: 'Come all together/If we come all together/We'll come all together for you'.

"The lyrics alone sound like it's 'Come Together' but it doesn't sound anything like that. But it's a bit like Spiritualized, y'know, when they do that gospel thing. The bulk of the song is only about three minutes long but the outro could go on forever, really."

However, Noel admitted he hadn't spoken to Liam about going back into the studio.

"I haven't spoken to Liam about this. This'll be the first he hears of it when he reads it now and he'll be like, 'What the fuck are you on about?'. I'd like to put it out as a one-off single, 'cos if we spend January recording and mixing it, it could be out for the summer."
