Warner Brothers Announce Distrubution Deal with Big Brother

After more than a decade with Sony Music, Brit-pop phenoms Oasis have found a new home, at Burbank's Warner Bros. Records. Today, Warner Bros. will announce a North American distribution deal with Big Brother Recordings, the Noel and Liam Gallagher-owned label, and the Oct. 7 release date of Dig Out Your Soul, the band's seventh studio album. The first single, "The Shock of Lightning," written by Noel, will hit radio in mid-August.

Earlier this summer, word had spread around Los Angeles that the Gallagher brothers were in town mixing the album, which was recorded at Abbey Road studios in London. The guys, seen at various psych-rock shows around town, were said to have almost 40 songs completed. Since then, that number has been truncated, but the record still features songwriting contributions by all four band members. Says Diarmuid Quinn, Warner Bros. Records COO, "The new music kicks ass!”

      McGee Thought Oasis Were Fascists

Alan McGee has been reminiscing about a time when OASIS were not a household name and how he initially thought they may be right-wingers.

The Creation boss spoke about signing the band in the early 1990s and his initial reaction to the band's paraphernalia.

He told Uncut magazine: "My little Manchester mate, Debbie Turner, shared a practice space with this band that had a Union Jack on the wall. I remember looking at the Union Jack and asking, 'Are they fascists? ' and she said, 'Yes.' She was taking the p**s, of course. She added, 'They're called Oasis. '"

He went on to say that he didn’t connect the band name with Noel Gallagher and, as it was before the "Cool Britannia bollocks", a Union Jack must mean that the band were fascists.

In related news, the Grand Pier at Weston-super-Mare which featured on the cover of Oasis' Roll With It single has burnt down.

      The Manc from Del Monte

Here's Liam Gallagher getting his last sun-shee-ine holiday before a huge 18 months for Oasis.

The frontman was snapped relaxing and sinking rose wine with wife Nicole in the Costa Del Sol.

The pair were also joined by Nicole’s sister Natalie and other friends and family.

Sitting in his straw hat, Liam looked more like The Man From Del Monte than a Manc hardman.

Oasis release their first single from new album Dig Out Your Soul in September, with the album out in October.

Then they start a mammoth world tour.

I hear the tracks Liam has penned are good, with one being tipped as the best on the album.

He still needs a haircut, though.

Gem Archer's Bedroom Served as Demo Studio

OASIS star NOEL GALLAGHER had to rush through the initial recordings for the band's new album DIG OUT YOUR SOUL so he didn't disrupt guitarist GEM ARCHER's family time.

The songwriter couldn't use his regular rehearsal space because pal Paul Weller was recording there, so he decided to turn Archer's bedroom into a makeshift studio for a week.

He tells Mojo magazine, "We had to finish the tunes before Gem's kids got home from school.

"These demos were really rushed and they were pretty sparse. There were no backing vocals, no acoustic guitars.

"I was looking at Gem, going, 'I'd have put trumpets on it, but your kids were knocking at the door.'"

Oasis Paid Studio Bosses With Bag of Cash

A bag of cash helped OASIS overturn a ban from bosses of fabled London studios Abbey Road - and steal recording space from U2.

Rocker Noel Gallagher has revealed he and his bandmates were told they'd no longer be welcome at the studios after turning them into late-night party spaces during the recording of Be Here Now.

Gallagher admits the rockers had upset Abbey Road bosses by "blasting out Beatles records at four in the morning" and "doing loads of drugs" there.

But when he decided to record Oasis' new album, Dig Out Your Soul, at the former home of the Fab Four, he took advantage of U2's famous deliberating and bribed Abbey Road bosses with cash.

He tells Mojo magazine, "U2 were booked in there with (producer) Rick Rubin. I was like, 'U2? U2 have to have a f**king six-hour meeting (to discuss) whether to get tea or coffee in the rehearsal room! They are not coming in here any time in the next five years.'

"The guy from Abbey Road was like, 'I've got it block-booked for the exact time you want it.'

"We actually went down to Abbey Road with a bag of money, and said, 'We can pay for the studio now!'"

The Gallagher brothers will preform at Finsbury Park, on September 21, for the tragic teenager - along with Madness, McFly and Kelly Rowland, 27.

What Happened Between Alan White and Oasis?

From a new interview with Steve White offering some insight into Alan and Oasis:

ZANI – You’ve mentioned your Brother Alan, and as we know he played drums with Oasis for nearly 10 years. We had Brit Pop, in the mid 90s with acts like Oasis and Paul Weller at the top of this ‘tree’, which featured you and Alan in both bands respectively. Not only are you and Alan part of Pop history, but I bet your parents must have been the proudest parents in southeast London.

Steve White- They were and still are. When Oasis was added to the mix of my family, we would get the Daily Mirror ringing my mum up, trying to catch her out. The good thing, about the Oasis mania, was the fact that I was there for Alan. To make sure he made the right business decisions. To make sure that the accountants and managers didn’t get their hands on his money. I was really glad I was there, because I was able to guide him. Alan did 10 years with Oasis, and maybe it was the right time to move on.

ZANI –What actually happened between Alan and Oasis. Why was he asked to leave in 2004?

Steve White – There were some disputes about meetings. I wasn’t there so I couldn’t comment. What you would get would be a story from either side. I am sure they’ve all got their opinions, and I respect that. The bottom line is that Alan got a call four days before Christmas from ‘The Manager’, and he was told he was out of the band. And he hasn’t seen or heard from Noel or Liam since.

ZANI – That’s a bit sad, seeing he had been with them for many years.

Steve White – All Alan wanted, was to have a pint of Stella, and the guys to say what we want is to get Zak Starkey in, as we don’t think you’re right for us anymore. Alan would have had no problem with that, as nothing lasts forever.

But it was just the circumstances of the events which were shocking. They shocked me, and they hurt Alan.

ZANI – What is Alan doing now?

Steve White – He’s a property developer. The bottom line is, he played on records that sold over 27 million copies worldwide, as a fully paid up member of the band. He’s done very well.

ZANI – So the elder brother’s business advice paid off?

Steve White – Alan is doing all right, thank you. He would love to play again, but I think he was really hurt the way it was done, with Oasis. But he wasn’t the first musician that it had happened to.

But for someone like Liam, and Noel, who presents this image,” I am tough, I am hard, and I can take on anyone.” They couldn’t stand there, face to face, with Alan, I don’t like that.

Hey Oasis commuinity, here's a message from my friend Matt:

Hi, Everyone. I'm Ice Cream Man. Our Ice Cream Crew and I travel the country giving away free ice cream. Our goal is to gift half a million free treats all over the world; we've already given away over 150,000! We're in the midst of our summer tour and we need a sponsor to help us give away 50,000 ice creams by years end. We'll be backstage at most of the major music festivals including Lollapalooza, Austin City Limits, Pitchfork Festivals, Outside Lands, and a bunch more. We'll also be stopping at children's hospitals, inner city programs, and throwing ice cream socials all over the country. We'll be available to stop at company stores, headquarters, and events as well.

We need as much help as we can get. If you can't bid on a sponsorship here are a few other ways you might be able to help.

    1) Send this link to anyone interested.
    2) Post something about the auction on your site or blog for a week.
    3) We have three different banners you can use on your site or blog too (check them out here)
    4) DIGG the story & help get the word out.

Have the Chemical Brothers remixed Oasis?

A version of a song rumoured to be a track destined for the forthcoming new Oasis album has leaked online. ( see L4E article )

The track is purported by various blogs to be a Chemical Brothers remix of a song named 'Falling Down'. However the identity of the remixers is not confirmed, and the likes of Primal Scream producer Jagz Kooner are also in the frame.

The song features Noel Gallagher on vocals, and has been praised by users of various Oasis fan forums.

NME.COM understands the band have been looking at remixing tracks from their new record, and this could be from those experiments.

French Music Site Posts Oasis Album Track List

Has Oasis' new album track list finally leaked or is it just another fake?
For reasons unknown to us NJR.fr retracted their post a few hours later as the official Oasis forum on OasisInet removed refrences to the French article...

Dig Out Your Soul Track List :

    1.Bag It Up
    2. The Turning
    3. Waiting for the Rapture
    4.The Shock of the Lightning
    5. I'm Outta Time
    6. (Get Off Your) High Horse Lady
    7. Falling Down
    8. To be Where There's Life
    9. Ain't Got Nothin'
    10. The Nature of Reality
    11. Soldier On

Link : http://www.nrj.fr/music/news/0/oasis-tracklisting-nouvel-album-109109.html (has been removed)

After an absence of three years, the band from Manchester presents its seventh album. The English press has not lied by presenting the latest Oasis as an excellent album.

Dig Out Your Soul is a treasure trove of music and is undoubtedly the best studio album of the duo. Liam Gallagher said would compose songs out of the usual construction and moving towards a new sound. It's done!

The progression of pieces is very consistent. From the raw energy of the first titles to the more sophisticated pieces of the end, the auditor discovers new sounds by Oasis stages as if the group wanted to guide him throughout the hearing. The Gallagher brothers put aside their sound British pop music to focus on a sound much more rock, sometimes folk. And it's very heavy, especially the track (Get Off Your) High Horse Lady.

Never in excess, the rockers introduce arrangements of all kinds with the precision of a goldsmith. In addition, the drumming holds a prominent place in pieces and provides real effectiveness in securities.

The fans and foes alike will find themselves with an album of great quality.

    (translated from original French article)

Update: L4E has been able to confirm the content's authenticity through an independent inside source.

      Rock’s Most Anthemic Bands?

    1. U2 -- If the word anthemic disappeared, U2-ish would be a good replacement. Bono always sounds like he's singing mass, the Edge's guitar rings like the trumpets at Jericho, and Larry Mullen's rhythmic stiffness is a virtue. Adam Clayton? He, uh, always looks stylish.
Signature anthem: "Pride (In the Name of Love)"

    2. The Clash -- Any band dubbed "the only band that matters" has got to have some serious anthemic power. Punk rock is often associated with a kind of nihilism, but the Clash sounded like their hearts might explode from caring so much.
    Signature anthem: "Death Or Glory"

    3. The Who -- I'm thinking of the Who's Next stadium rock version of the band more than the early modfathers. Pete Townshend's power chords and Keith Moon's roiling drum fills were, and are, key touchstones for any band wanting to sound bigger than life.
    Signature anthem: "Baba O' Riley"

    4. The Arcade Fire -- Win Butler and Co. are more dour than the other bands on this list, but even when these guys are singing about the apocalypse, their rag-tag widescreen epics make me hope they put out a few more albums before the end comes.
    Signature anthem: "Wake Up"

    5. Thin Lizzy -- Too often thought of as a one-, or maybe two-hit wonder (if you count "Jailbreak" along with "The Boys Are Back In Town"), Phil Lynott's band fused streetwise swagger with mythology-infused poetry and a saber-rattling twin guitar attack.
Signature anthem: "Roisin Dubh (Black Rose): A Rock Legend"

    6. The Hold Steady -- Craig Finn's finely wrought lyrics turn hardscrabble hardcore kids into heroes. Tad Kubler's soaring guitar solos and Franz Nikolay's baroque keyboard flourishes do the same for their band.
Signature anthem: "How A Resurrection Really Feels"

    7. The Waterboys -- For a hot minute back in the '80s, the Waterboys were at the forefront of a wave of big sounding UK acts like Simple Minds and Big Country. But they were the best, and their densely detailed productions and stirring folkish melodies shouldn't be forgotten.
Signature anthem: "This Is The Sea"

    8. The Killers -- Maybe the most self-conscious of all the bands here. They get a lot of grief for being so obvious about their influences (U2, Springsteen), but writing anthems ain't for the humble hearted.
Signature anthem: "All These Things That I've Done"

    9. Oasis -- For a short time, Noel Gallagher's huge guitar sound and his brother Liam's sneering swagger had this band competing for the title of "world's biggest." They've since slipped, but their rip-roaring sound has never shrunk.
    Signature anthem: "Live Forever"

    10. Bruce Springsteen -- A no-brainer. The Boss has written a handful of songs that a lot of Americans--and everyone in New Jersey--would gladly adopt as a new national anthem.
    Signature anthem: "Born To Run"

More Details on "Sony - Big Brother" Marketing Deal

In an exclusive interview with 6 Music, Noel Gallagher explained that he has no plans to follow in Radiohead's footsteps when it comes to their new album Dig Out Your Soul, as he has no intention of making the record free for fans to download.

“I wouldn’t have thought so. That’s not our bag,” He explained. “I didn’t spend a year in the most expensive studio in England, with the most expensive producer in America, and the most expensive graphic designer in London to then give it away. F*** that.”

Noel also expressed his opinion on the honesty box policy of Radiohead’s In Rainbows where fans could pay as little - or as much – as they wanted.

“To be honest, to me it looked like marketing. Y’know? A great way of getting a load of marketing for free really, but good for them. That’s what they do, they’re rebels and outsiders."

Noel also discussed Oasis’ ground breaking new record deal with Sony, which involved a worldwide profit-sharing arrangement for their next three albums and their back catalogue.

“Because we’ve been on our own record label [Big Brother] for eight years, Sony have signed the record label – so they’ve not actually signed the band.” He continued, “So we’re signed to our own record label and they’ve signed that label. And they’ve given us our back catalogue back.

“We’re on our own label in England, but we choose what label we want to be on for the rest of the world, and choosing to license it [the new album] to them. We pay them, rather than them pay us…. I think that’s how it works.
“I’ve been in meetings that were so complicated that I glassed over and just said ‘I’ll sign anywhere, just give it to me.' It was like having a confession beaten out of me.”

Oasis new single The Shock Of The Lightning is out on 29 September and their new album Dig Out Your Soul is released on 6 October.

Becks and Noel to Work on Internet Project

Soccer ace David Beckham and Oasis singer Noel Gallagher have teamed up to be a part of a new internet site Channelbee.com.

Spice Girls manager Simon Fuller and former Soccer AM host Tim Lovejoy have spent a year working on the project.

On July 5, they launched the site with Tim fronting the site from a purpose-built London studio.

The site includes a daily show, video sketches, a dating show, concerts with bands and anecdotes and interviews, which web surfers, can email to friends.

Lovejoy is sure that the site will be a success - particularly with youngsters - as it is completely free to view.

"David Beckham and Noel Gallagher have said they are going to do something with us," Mirror quoted him, as saying.

"The technology means we can film something and have it up in half a day," he added.

Noel confirms Oasis' Views on Album Marketing

Oasis guitarist Noel Gallagher says it's unlikely that the band will ever follow Radiohead by allowing fans to name what price they pay for their album.

“I wouldn’t have thought so. That’s not our bag,” he told the BBC.

“I didn’t spend a year in the most expensive studio in England, with the most expensive producer in America, and the most expensive graphic designer in London to then give it away. Fuck that.”

Radiohead shocked the music industry last October by ignoring traditional release methods with their latest album 'In Rainbows'.

Fans were allowed to pay anything from 1p to £100 for the album.

Despite saying that Oasis would never follow Radiohead's example, Gallagher did praise the band for the “marketing” methods they used to sell the record.

“To be honest, to me it looked like marketing. Y’know? A great way of getting a load of marketing for free really, but good for them. That’s what they do, they’re rebels and outsiders,” he said.

Oasis release their new album 'Dig Out Your Soul' on October 6th. It will be preceded by the single 'The Shock Of Lightening' on September 28th.

      Noel Gallagher Likes Jay-Z

The Oasis guitarist also defended his comments about Jay-Z headlining last weekend's Glastonbury Festival.

He said: "The broadsheets get hold of it and have me going down Hyde Park Corner blasting and slamming.

"For the record, I Iike Jay-Z. That's my opinion.

"If it offends people, don't ask me anymore questions.

"I should do these things and answer like every two-bit pop star."

In April, Noel Gallagher said having the rapper at the festival was the reason tickets had not sold out and that it was "wrong" to have a hip-hop headliner.

Jay-Z played the guitarist's comments to the crowd at Glastonbury in a video montage before his set and played an acoustic version of Oasis hit Wonderwall.

Music chain HMV say the performance has helped boost sales of Oasis's album (What's The Story) Morning Glory, as well as the single Wonderwall.

Noel Gallagher Concerned About Growing Knife Crime

    Oasis

'In my day, status was trying to be somebody… not trying to kill somebody'

Noel Gallagher has joined the debate concerning knife crime amongst young people.

Speaking at the Silver Chef Music Therapy awards, the Oasis songwriter admitted that the topic is inescapable.

"I was up in Liverpool for a week a couple of weeks ago and even on the news there it's every single night," said Gallagher told BBC Newsbeat.

He added: "In my day, status was trying to be somebody, do you know what I mean, not trying to kill somebody."

Asked for his opinion on the reasons behind the rise in knife crime, Gallagher considered the role of video games and drugs in youth culture.

"People say it's through violent video games and I guess that's got something to do with it", he suggested. "If kids are sitting up all night smoking super skunk and they become so desensitised to crime because they're playing these video games, it's really, really scary."

Gallagher added that finding a solution would be tough, saying: "I don't even know what [David] Cameron (opposition leader) or Gordon Brown (Prime Minister) are going to do about it."

Gallagher Brothers Attend Silver Clef Awards

Oasis were presented with the prestigious O2 Silver Clef Award today (04.07.08).

'Wonderwall' rockers Noel and Liam Gallagher attended the exclusive event at London's Park Lane Hilton hotel where they were given the accolade for their contribution to the music industry by boxing legend Ricky Hatton, who admitted to being a huge fan of the band.

Ricky said: "There are a few things in my life - my family, Manchester City Football Club and Oasis. If someone had said to me a few years ago you would be presenting Oasis with an award I'd have said they were daft. When you are a fan of someone it doesn't getting any better than presenting them with an award!"

When asked if he would be celebrating with Noel and Liam afterwards, Ricky said: "Noel said he is going to meet me for a pint, so that should be interesting!"

Noel - who controversially said rapper Jay-Z was the "wrong" choice to headline this year's Glastonbury music festival - also explained his comment.

He told BANG Showbiz: "All I did was give my opinion about ticket sales at Glastonbury and that's the end of it. For the record I like Jay-Z - it's just my opinion. If people don't like it, don't ask me any more questions. I should just be like every other s**t-bag pop star and just say, 'Everything is amazing'."

The event - which was held in aid of Nordoff-Robin Music Therapy, the chosen charity of the music industry which undertakes over 30,000 sessions annually with both children and adults - was hosted by TV presenter Myleene Klass and attended by celebrities including 'Dragon's Den' star Duncan Bannatyne, singer Lisa Stansfield and 'Top Gear' host Jeremy Clarkson.

Other winners at the ceremony included Amy Macdonald, who was given The Newcomer Award by comedian Russell Brand following the huge success of her debut album 'This Is The Life'.

Glaswegian band The Fratellis won the Best British Band accolade, which was presented to them by 'Hot Fuzz' actor Simon Pegg.

Before the ceremony started, guests were treated to a Silver Clef luncheon, sponsored by O2.

They also took part in a Silver Clef auction, where prizes included a dinner at London's Dorchester Hotel hosted by Eddie Jordan, Mike Rutherford and Nick Mason, as well as three limited edition pieces of Paul Weller's Stanley Road album artwork by Sir Peter Blake, signed by Weller and Blake.

Noel faces up to Geri Halli-hell

There's nothing worse than your missus bursting your bubble.

Just ask Noel Gallagher. His partner Sara MacDonald shattered him when she pointed out the title he wanted to give to the new Oasis album was a Geri Halliwell hit.

He said: “The missus goes, ‘Bag It Up? Isn’t that a song by Geri Halliwell?’ I was like, ‘You’ve ruined my entire f****** year’.”

Dig Out Your Soul is released on October 6 but Noel has revealed he was not entirely aware of all of the songs on it.

He told Mojo magazine: “I was doing the Electric Proms with The Coral, who had recorded at my studio. They’d had a sneaky listen to our new stuff so singer James Skelly asks me, ‘Are you gonna do Soldier On?’

“I don’t remember it. Turns out Andy Bell recorded it with Liam – but Liam still doesn’t remember it!”

And Noel and Liam are still arguing – this time over the band’s new drummer Chris Sharrock, who used to work with Robbie Williams.

Noel said: “It was too much of a temptation to p*** Robbie and Liam off in one phone call.”

Noel wants to chat with Jay-Z

Jay-Z has had tremendous success during his tour of Europe, bowling over fans with a slew of festival appearances, including his historic appearance at England's Glastonbury Festival on Saturday.

"Well, I'm pretty much now in a great place, I'm in the zone," Sir Hova of Brooklyn told MTV Base this week. "Glastonbury was a historic event for me, I played Milton Keynes the day after that and it's just ... You know, I'm feeling the love. Any time you can come from where I come from - Brooklyn, New York, everybody knows the story - [and] come so far. It's not that it's that far, but to come overseas and have people embrace you the way I've been embraced thus far, it's just an amazing feeling."

One person who obviously didn't share the fans' feelings was Oasis' Noel Gallagher, who was a much-publicized critic of having a rapper headline the traditionally rock-centric Glastonbury fest. Maybe Gallagher's stance has softened in the wake of Jay's acclaimed performance - Jay told us he's heard the guitarist wants to have a conversation.

"I haven't spoken to him," Jay said. "I heard he was reaching out, but I haven't spoken to him."

Jay even said he's open to working with Oasis in the future should something suitable come up. "Anyone," he answered, when asked about who he'd be willing to work with. "Oasis as well - it doesn't matter to me, I don't bear any grudge, it's all good. I just believe in good music and bad music, I've always said that. You look at any interview from the beginning of time, I've always stated that I don't believe in the lines and classifications that people put music in so they can easily define it."

The Banned Glasto Intro Real Appears Online

Banned from TV Noel Gallagher clip appears online

The intro reel played before Jay-Z's Glastonbury headline show on Saturday (June 28), which featured Oasis' Noel Gallagher's derogatory comments about the rapper, has been posted online.

The video features Gallagher's quote that Jay-Z had "no fucking chance" of pulling off a Glastonbury headline slot, spliced together with archive footage of figures including Bill Clinton, London mayor Boris Johnson and Queen Elizabeth II.

It also features members of the public commenting on Jay-Z, as well as Pharrell Williams, who bigs up the rapper.

The clip did not appear on the BBC's coverage of Glastonbury because all the footage it uses could not be cleared for broadcast, so until now only those present at the show have seen it.

Jay-Z followed the video montage by kicking off his show with a cover of Oasis' 'Wonderwall'.

A few things from this months Mojo Magazine....
